Call it not just a BDS failure, but a total reversal.
The official broadcasters of the upcoming Eurovision song contest have banned the audience from waving Palestinian flags, along with the flags of ISIS, Kosovo and the Basque movement.
Eurovision is wildly popular across the continent, as well as in Israel, which regularly sends a competing band or singer.
As part of the televised festivities, those in the audience wave the national flags of their favorite competitors.
Some like to use the opportunity to make a political statement by waving flags that have nothing to do with the competition.
Not this year.
The broadcaster has issued an “official flag policy” banning certain flags, including that of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which is also the official flag of “Palestine.”
It should be remembered that the PLO was once the foremost terrorist organization in the world, similar to what Al-Qaeda is today.
Long-time Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, who recently took over as secretary-general of the PLO, was outraged.
In a scathing letter to the European Broadcasting Union, Erekat called the Eurovision flag policy “discriminatory and a serious offense against our nation.”
Erekat noted that some 138 nations, including most of Europe, have officially recognized a Palestinian state. “We call upon you to immediately revoke this shameful decision,” he continued, demanding that the Europeans issue an apology to “millions of Palestinians around the world.”
