Herb Zweibon said: Israel suffers from a crisis in leadership. An Israeli Committee on the Present Danger along with a grass roots “tea party” movement could, between them, give birth to a new generation of leaders (to quote Shmuel Katz, who never gave up hope such a leadership would arise): “with the integrity, the prudence and the courage to cope with Israel’s problems and who will pilot it through the perilous, tempestuous, unruly seas of the contemporary world.”
God says: “Be strong and very courageous. …Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:8)
The Jerusalem Connection says: Herb Zweibon headed Americans for a Safe Israel. He died on Wednesday night, January 19, 2011. I am attending his funeral today just outside New York City. Herb was a Zionist to the core and an activist in keeping the Zionist dream alive among Jews in the U.S. but especially in Israel. Herb personified all that Shmuel Katz hoped for. Small in stature, he was a gutsy giant among Jews who stood firmly on God’s covenant promises for a national homeland for the “The Tribe,” as he called his fellow Jews. Christian Zionists have lost one of their strongest and most affectionate advocates. I visited Herb at his bedside on Wednesday afternoon. He could barely speak above a whisper, wheezing from the effects of pneumonia, tubed up for dialysis and who knows what else, he still displayed the strength of character and courage for which he will always be remembered. As I was leaving his bedside he grasped my hand and said, “Jim, Chazak, Chazak, be strong, be strong!” God help me.
