We are now in the High Holidays of Biblical Judaism. Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonement, begins Friday at Sundown. Sukkot, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles, begins Thursday, September 23rd and lasts till the following Wednesday.
These are three special feasts God’s people are encouraged to keep. The Bible says, “Three times a year you will appear before Yahweh your God at the place he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread , the Feast of Weeks , and the Feast of Tabernacles .” .
Christians believe Jesus fulfilled Passover when he came the first time as our Passover Lamb, yet we still celebrate and have a Passover Seder each year, as Jesus did with his disciples. Christians also believe the Holy Spirit’s coming at Pentecost fulfilled the Feast of Weeks that took place fifty days after Passover. Many Christians believe that when Messiah returns, it will be at the time of the Feast of Trumpets. This may be the last trumpet call spoken of in II Corinthians 15:52, “In a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”
The Feast of Tabernacles anticipates a universal feast to be acknowledged by all nations when the Messiah rules and reigns on earth with his people . We’re certainly ready for his return at the Feast of Trumpets, but if it is not this year, Pat and I will still have our little tent out in the yard with family and friends in attendance. We will read the passages and celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. Wish you could be with us.
