Conversations with Simon Wiesenthal – a Film by Inna Rogatchi
The Lessons of Survival, Conversations with Simon Wiesenthal is the recent film by Inna Rogatchi released in 2014. This documentary art film is based on many friendly and intimate conversations that Inna Rogatchi had with legendary Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal during many years of their friendship. In these personal talks, Simon Wiesenthal shares with us his views on psychological, physosophical, and social aspects of the Holocaust and post-Holocaust in the unique way of establishing his legacy delivered first-hand. The film covers many exceptionally important historic episodes, including the details of the hunt for Adolf Eichmann, search of the officer who had arrested Anna Franck, unknown details on destiny of Raoul Wallenberg. The film was highly praised by both film critics and historians specially produced unique footage of Mauthausen, and the results of the Inna Rogatchi’s special research on unknown episodes of the Second World War and Nazi regime. The film shows also original art of prolific artist Michael Rogatchi whose paintings were at the Simon and Cyla Wiesenthals’ collection, and it features highly intelligent music of Israeli composer Israel Sharon.
The film has been internationally acclaimed. After its European premiere at the European Parliament on the International Holocasust & Remembrance Day in 2014, it has been selected for several leading international festivals – such as Holocaust Film Series of the second largest in the world Jewish International Film Festival in Australia ( Melbourne and Sydney), Faces of Humanity Festival of the Illinois Holocaust Museum in partnership with Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema, and had its special national premieres in France ( Paris, Memorial de la Shoah), Lithuania ( Seimas, the parliament of Lithuania), Finland, Australia, and the other countries.
The film has been acquired by many leading international institutions, including Yad Vashem, US Holocaust Memorial Museum ( Washington, DC), Harvard, Colubmia, Arizona State Universities, Hebrew Universities, Sydney Jewish Museum, and many others.
In 2015, the film has been shown at the special Yom Ha Shoah ceremony in Helsinki, Finland, conducted by the Israeli Embassy and the Helsinki Jewish community, and at the Yom Ha’atzmaut , Israel Independece Day , in Paris, at the French national premiere of the film at the Memorial de la Shoah.
