What’s Your Perspective on History?
Sometimes it seems like decades and centuries past by and are but footnotes or textbook chapters for us to know about and then move on with our everyday lives.
But let us really look at history in some context.
For example, Prince Philip recently passed at age 99. He was married to Queen Elizabeth for 74 years. Philip and Elizabeth married one year before the modern state of Israel was born. And we still have Elizabeth around to tell us about it!
Think of this. Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Alice, was named righteous amount the gentiles for her selfless work during WWII to hide and save Greek Jews. Philip was but one degree away from helping Jews. His mother, a princess (whose family was exiled) stayed in Greece to live in a convent instead of fleeing to England or Germany to enjoy a more luxurious lifestyle.
And this was but one lifetime ago. Prince Philip, on official business representing the Crown, went to Israel to honor his mother when she passed and was buried at the Mount of Olives. All while then anti-Zionists told him not to visit the land (there was an unofficial boycott of Israel at the time).
We still have Holocaust survivors to this day who can testify to the horrors that centuries of antisemitism in Europe had led to in the sophisticated and modern central lands of Europe where art, education, and innovation was, at the time, seemingly flourishing.
We are within but one lifetime of a nation being born—the nation of Israel is only 73 years young, but over 3000 years old. A prophecy fulfilled. And all within one lifetime’s vantage point.
For holocaust deniers and history revisionists who claim Israel is imperialist or colonial—you need to re-read the definitions of each. For those who say Israel violates the any human rights of its inhabitants, you need to go there and check it out—and then go to its neighbors. Gaza, Jordan, Egypt and Syria with a check list of human rights protections and living conditions and status reports and then let us all see your comparison…Women, Homosexuals, folks not of the dominant religion, folks not of the dominant color.
Let me know who can go to school, college, and get a job—let me know what employment conditions and protections are like. Let me know who can have a parade or festival…and then get back to me…
All, within one lifetime.
Shavua Tov, have a great week.
