Dana Arschin, journalist turned storyteller—combines her professional expertise, her personal history, and her focused passion into a gift to the world via storytelling. She joins us today to share her story with us.
Dana’s work with the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (hmtcli.org) brings the world access to individual stories that enlighten us on the history of a nearly gone generation who has so much to teach us.
Storytelling is Dana’s unique way of contributing to Holocaust education by making lessons personal, engaging, and memorable. Preserving history is more than just archiving memories and events. Her professional and artistic way of documenting the past brings it to the present so all generations can connect to the individuals who lived through a most dark time in our collective lineage.
By connecting with the individuals and hearing their stories firsthand, we are offered a unique opportunity to empathize and identify with the person and the time. Moreover, the lessons in resilience, hope, and perspective can help us to ensure evil does not happen again, and if it does, be better prepared to stand with, beside, and in front of our Jewish brothers and sisters when they are faced with yet another reiteration of antisemitism.
Dana’s storytelling is a resource for all of us to use to broaden our own understanding, and to share that with our communities in voicing support of and defense of Jewish people everywhere. We must not let the Jewish people stand alone in their history or in their current circumstances ever again—because never again is now.
Many thanks to Dana for giving us her time and sharing her life mission with us so we too can share is and share in it.
