By VICTOR SHARPE—
If anything uttered by a United States senator should send shudders of despair through what is left of a sane and moral world, it is the moronic words spewed by the ubiquitous Senator John McCain in the last few days.
When asked by a Fox News reporter if America should be giving aid and comfort to Muslim rebels in Syria who routinely behead their victims while screaming the Muslim war cry, Allahu Akbar, or at the same time utter the chilling cry at the sight of a Syrian jet fighter being shot down, he chided the reporter by saying that there was nothing different in a Christian saying, “Thank God.” In other words, according to several blogs, including Atlas Shrugs and Frontpagemag, McCain believes there is nothing different in the Islamic war cry to that of a Christian saying “Thank God.”
“Allahu Akbar” does not mean “God is Great.” It means “Allah is Greater.” Don’t just take my word for it. Many scholars have said the same including, Andrew C. McCarthy, author of Spring Fever, The llusion of Islamic Democracy.
It is the Islamic triumphalist statement proclaiming that the Muslim god is the greatest god surpassing any god you happen to believe in. The senator’s appalling ignorance of history and theology by equating “Allahu Akbar” with the Christian expression of “Thank God” should dispel once and for all any and all credibility remaining to the senator. His military service in Vietnam as a prisoner of war was heroic and it is tragic that his political descent now is becoming so embarrassing in the extreme.
McCain should be reminded that “Allahu Akbar” were the last words 13 American soldiers, men and women, heard as they were mown down by the Muslim murderer, Major Nidal Hassan. “Allahu Akbar” were the last words the doomed passengers on board the three airliners heard on 9/11 as their Muslim hijackers flew them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennysylvania killing so many innocents in the air and on the ground.
That Arabic war cry were the last chilling words heard by countless victims of Islamic terror and mass murder for millennia dating back to Mohammed’s slaughter of the Jews of Khaibar in 7th century Arabia.
It has continued for 1,400 plus years, yet still the Senator from Arizona, John McCain, can dare liken it to the Christian words: “Thank God.”
