Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be in Lebanon on Wednesday, and is planning to visit the border fence with Israel, where he has promised to hurl a “symbolic stone” into the Jewish state to express his solidarity with those who fight against the “Zionist entity.”
Druze-Israeli lawmaker Ayoub Kara (Likud) is preparing Israel’s response: the release of 2,000 blue and white balloons in the Iranian leader’s face.
“We are planning to fly 2,000 balloons across the northern border to Lebanon when Ahmadinejad comes for a visit Wednesday,” Kara told Voice of Israel radio. “The balloons represent the fact that the Jewish people have come home after 2,000 years of exile, and they are not going anywhere.”
Though Kara is not Jewish himself, he expressed tremendous appreciation for the Jewish state, noting that if it did not exist, the entire Middle East would look like Iran.
Kara has long been the most outspoken non-Jewish Israeli politician in support of Israel’s right to exist and the Jews’ right to settle their biblical homeland.
Last month, Kara publicly saluted visiting Christians for standing with Israel, noting that they, like him, were often more Jewish and definitely more Zionist than many of Israel’s Jews.
