The incoming Trump administration plans to reveal whether it will proceed with relocating America’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in the coming days, incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer said on Thursday.
In a press conference one day before Donald Trump’s inauguration, Spicer told journalists to “stay tuned” for details on the president-elect’s plans.
“There will be a further announcement on that,” Spicer said. “The president has made clear that Israel has not gotten the respect it deserves.”
Spicer said that Trump had been consulting with his choice for ambassador to Israel, David Friedman; his Jewish son-in-law, Jared Kushner; and his nominee for secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, on whether to make the move, which outgoing US President Barack Obama warned against in his final White House press conference on Wednesday.
“When sudden unilateral moves are made that speak to the core issues or sensitivities of either side, that can be explosive,” Obama said.
