Dear Friends and Partners of the Jerusalem Connection:
My wife Pat and I are now in Poland to exhibit her paintings, The Auschwitz Album Revisited. This comes at the invitation of the Chief Rabbi of Poland to participate in the summer’s Krakow Jewish Cultural Festival. We will be joining Cantor Roni Wexler for a total of twenty people making this historic trip. We are humbled by this tremendous honor and feel so privileged to be a part of this reconciliation effort to bring healing between Jews and non-Jews. Please do pray with us for this endeavor. Please pray that we will receive God’s favor and He will be honored. And pray that Christians will be recognized for their support of Israel and the Jewish people.
Yad VaShem Recap
In April and May I was invited to a leadership seminar at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem. During my time there I shared some of the archival prints of Pat’s Auschwitz Album paintings with the Curator of Yad VaShem. She was very impressed, took them before her approval committee, and before I left had received their approval for exhibiting them at Yad VaShem. Since then one of the faculty members there visited our home, saw all the original paintings and has suggested an exhibit next summer at Yad VaShem. This will be, as the Poland exhibit is, an expensive endeavor, so we ask that you please pray with us regarding this extraordinary opportunity.
The whole Yad VaShem seminar was both sobering and instructive. The extent to which the German population was knowledgeable if not supportive of Hitler’s extermination efforts is staggering. It was indeed, as one lecturer said, “a consensus dictatorship.” But it likewise serves as a stark warning. What happened in Germany in the 1930’s is reaching that level of anti-Semitism in Europe today. Also, in secular academia in the U.S. especially in the political science and humanities departments as well as the Middle East Studies programs, these are hot beds of anti-Israel and anti-Zionists fervor which is nothing less than veiled anti-Semitism in most cases.
The knowledge of growing anti-Semitism worldwide begs the question: “will safe houses be needed again?” Many, Jews and Christians are sensing that it could just be a matter of time before safe houses are indeed needed again – this time for both Christians and Jews. We have already received scores of volunteers from all across the country from people who are offering their homes as possible safe houses. Just before I left for Poland I met with a group of people in Washington, DC who have either offered their homes or are a part of a safe house network. PRAY! Find out more on our website.
Israel’s Security Situation
My last week in Israel was spent with Shurhat HaDin (The Israel Law Center). This was a series of visits, lectures and briefings related to Israel’s security. It was an opportunity to learn of the threat analysis from representatives of the Israel Defense Forces, Mossad (Israel’s CIA) and Shin Bet (Israel’s FBI). This analysis came not from politicians or pundits but from those who have to make accurate intelligence evaluations and strategize accordingly. The bottom line is these people do not believe there will be peace with the Palestinians or the Arabs, certainly not for the foreseeable future. Rather they believe that the conflict can be contained and managed, much as Israel has done up to now. One Air Force general was asked if he was optimistic. His answer, “I am tragically optimistic. I am optimistic that we can win in a battle with our adversaries but at the tragic loss of many Israeli lives.”
At this writing Prime Minister Netanyahu has expressed his concerns that another intifada will be started as a prelude to the Palestinian effort to gain United Nations support for a Palestinian state in September. The U.S. has said it will veto such an action. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Avigdor Lieberman has said if the Palestinians do this all previous agreements, including the Oslo Accords will be rendered null and void. I sincerely hope that is the case because peace with the Palestinians remains a delusional denial of fantasizing liberals in Israel and the U.S.
I believe the next tangible and observable event that will occur from a Biblical perspective is the Daniel 9:27 agreement that is reinforced by a recognized world leader. That begins the 7-year time line that all will recognize and will eventuate in the coming of Messiah Jesus to rule and reign on this Earth. All up to that point lacks definition from a time-line standpoint. Some think the Gog and Magog war of Ezekiel 38-39 will have to occur first. However, for that to occur Israel would have to be living in “safety” (v.8, 14), and in “unwalled villages” (v. 11). That is hardly the case today since Israel is basically one huge bunker and Israelis must have an ever-present vigilance against its enemies.
We need you as our Partner
These are difficult financial times for all of us. We have especially felt it in our ministry, particularly this spring and as we come into the summer months. We are a faith-based ministry that utilizes to the max volunteers, including myself and my wife. If you think that what we are doing counts for the Kingdom and the cause of Messiah Jesus, we really do need your help. We are making every effort to cut costs wherever we can, but without your help, we are going to come up short. So please pray about how you can be a regular prayer and financial partner with us and this ministry.
