BY JENNIFER RUBIN, WASHINGTON POST—
Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) have introduced a resolution that reads:
- Declaring that it is the policy of the United States to support and facilitate Israel in maintaining defensible borders and that it is contrary to United States policy and national security to have the borders of Israel return to the armistice lines that existed on June 4, 1967.
- Whereas, throughout its short history, Israel, a liberal democratic ally of the United States, has been repeatedly attacked by authoritarian regimes and terrorist organizations that denied its right to exist;
- Whereas the United States Government remains steadfastly committed to the security of Israel, especially its ability to maintain secure, recognized, and defensible borders; Whereas the United States Government is resolutely bound to its policy of preserving and strengthening the capability of Israel to deter enemies and defend itself against any threat;
- Whereas United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 (1967) recognized Israel’s ‘‘right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force’’;
- Whereas the United States has long recognized that a return to the 1967 lines would create a strategic military vulnerability for Israel and greatly impede its sovereign right to defend its borders; and
- Whereas Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu correctly stated on May 20, 2011, that the 1967 lines were not ‘‘boundaries of peace. They are the boundaries of repeated war’’: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), That, (1) it is the policy of the United States to support and facilitate Israel in creating and maintaining secure, recognized, and defensible borders; and (2) it is contrary to United States policy and our national security to have the borders of Israel return to the armistice lines that existed on June 4, 9 1967.
President Obama’s spinners will certainly argue this is unnecessary and point that he called for 1967 borders with “land swaps.” But the point of the resolution is clear: The United States has a long bipartisan position on the primacy of defensible borders and that the U.S. role is to “facilitate” Israel’s security, not undermine its bargaining position.
Moreover, if this is the Obama position, why have no Democratic senators signed on? And if it’s precisely what Obama meant to say, why not signal his approval? Unless, of course, Obama is playing a double game — signaling to the Palestinians one position and voicing platitudes to quiet critics at home.
Kudos to Sen.’s Hatch and Lieberman for taking a stand for Israel. I hope more will stand up to defend our only true allay in the Middle East. For as Israel goes, so goes the United States!
Just a thought, I noticed every time there is a push for Israel to give up more land by Obama, America suffers another natural disaster almost immediately following his statements.
I remember listening to Joe at one of the CUFI meetings in DC. I was so impressed with his passion yet confused why he was on the democrat ticket since the democrat party is not for Israel. This letter is good but we have to stop funding both sides. We should only be funding Israel. Do you really support one side if you are funding both Sides?? As we the American people are deciding to impose separation of God and Country it will not be long before we will not be a deciding factor for Israel. We simply will not be able to help anyone, we are broke and it is time to pay the piper. We the body of Christ have not only failed our church, we have failed our children and America. We went silent when some Churches started to say America is the new Israel, Gods promise is with us now. We should have stood and stopped this. There are some many things the body of Christ has let happen that our numbers are not growing but declining. Our voice is not in Unity. How do I tell my children we as the American government support Israel then tell her we also give money and weapons to enemy of Israel?? Really, no we never have really supported Israel, we have stood behind Blinders, the day we gave money and guns to Yasser Arafat was the day we said we are two faced. We have supported Dictator after Dictator as long as he keep the killing and rape and etc out of the view of the world we gave them money. After all they are better than the other guy. This is not how God wants us to live. If my neighbor is only shooting once a month at my house I will still stop him for good. I have not found a Bible verse that tells me to compromise with evil. Are there any men left??
As for me and My house I will love the Lord and support Israel with my monies direct to them and the IDF.

Dear Fellow Friends of Israel,
I would like to know why there is only Senators Hatch and Lieberman to stand along side of Israel? You mean they are the only ones who are willing to put God’s will before man’s.
There are many Christians who do not go along with dividing Israel. Why don’t one of the Arab nations give some land for a Palestian nation? Why expect the small nation of Israel, the size of New Jersey, to give up land? Crazy!

Il have to take my hat off to both Senator Orrin Hatch and Senator Joe Lieberman for having the courage to do what is always been right concerning Israel. If America doesn’t stand behind Israel, God says he will judge those who come against Israel. That also includes America’s prosperity. For years we’ve seen American politicians speak against Israel, forcing them to give away the land that God gave them and we’re seeing the cause and effects of these decisions in America; troubles on our own borders and unimaginable debt to a communist country. Much of this has to do with removing the God of the Bible from America and seeing God is a jealous God, he will continue to judge America with mother nature as we’ve been experiencing. God always uses the weather and such to judge, as clearly outlined in the Bible.
Thanks again Senator Orrin Hatch and Senator Joe Lieberman.
L.P.
I applaud the Senators for this resolution and stand wholly with them in supporting Israel and in supporting Benjamin Netanyahu’s stand. The President needs to be corrected on this issue (sadly on many others also). Dr. Seif wrote an article in the May issue of Christ for the Nations that reviewed the history of Islam and its destructive tendencies. It appears that our President is in lock-step with their m.o. I am praying for Israel and the United States and I do believe that America will return to the calling Elohim has on her. Shalom Y’Israel.
Great points are made in all of the above. We must stand with Israel. God is the
only judge we should be using as our reason for supporting His chosen people!
WE need to stand against their enemies. The persecution of Christians in Iraq
and Egypt is escalating and we hear nothing about it.
