I’m compelled to take exception to Jim’s views re: the Cenacle (or Upper Room). Granted, it is the place where tour guides take thousands of Believers every year and tell them this is the Upper Room as described in the Bible — the place of the Last Supper. In point of fact, such a claim is impossible. The architecture of the Cenacle is classic Crusader architecture, with it’s typical pillars and X-shaped vaulted ceilings. The room could not have been built any earlier than July 1099 (the Crusaders captured Jerusalem at about noon on 15 July 1099) and was most likely built many months — or even years — later. To claim that Yeshua ate the Passover in this room with His disciples is, to put it nicely, being economical with the truth.
Moreover, most Christian’s also associate the Upper Room with the location of the gathering of the disciples on Shavu’ot (Pentecost) when the Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) descended on the Believers. However, the Bible says nothing about the Believers being in the “Upper Room”. Luke says “the rushing like a mighty wind filled all The House where they were sitting”. (Acts 2:2). Recall that Luke, at this time, was writing primarily to Believers who were Jewish. To the Jewish person, The House (or HaBayit, in Hebrew) always meant The Temple. In fact, it was — and still is to this day — the habit of religious Jews to spend the entire night on the first night of Shavu’ot reading the Torah and praying. This happened in The Temple in Yeshua’s day, and occurs in the synagogues today. Moreover, Jewish men and women from all over the Roman Empire would ascend to Jerusalem and come to The Temple during Shavu’ot, which is why so many people were present to hear the apostles telling the good news of Yeshua in their own languages. (Acts 2:5-12). Neither the disciples nor “the multitudes” were in someone’s house (let alone in the upper room). They were in “The House” — HaBayit — The Temple.
As an aside, the Temple Mount is called, still to this day, in Hebrew “Har HaBayit” — “the Mountain of The House”.
Under the impression here that the in the realm of compare/contrast: the media and its religious adherents cannot get enough of whosoever occupies the papacy, while at the same time going out of their way to diminish PM Netanyahu. Pope Francis certainly cozied up to Islam while in Bethlehem. Whether he saw the sign posted here or not is unclear, but his staff certainly did (they are in charge of security) and in the end, apparently said nothing. Ecumenism – let’s get along – prevailed while the Prime Minister stood his ground for his nation virtually alone. Good day.
Well Jim we are certainly in the last days, the Anti-Christ, the one world religion and one world government are almost here but we need not fear Christ is ready to come for His Bride. Shalom Shabbat and Happy Shavuot for this week end.
there was no temple in gan eden what about in the restoration, before the temple dressed like a bride?
